Mahurangi running

August 7, 2017

Having lived in this Mahurangi East region for two years now, I have enjoyed getting to know the nearby tracks and trails. I generally run alone in the early morning and like the quiet solitude, but as a social creature, I also like occasions to meet others. People now know me as 'the runner' and often ask how far I run each day. Well, I routinely run 10 to 15km, seldom less than 8km and once a week 20 to 30km (usually on a Sunday morning). A favourite shorter run from home is to Sandpit Wharf and back, however there is no avoiding downhill there and uphill on the homeward journey. I have to mention that the roads and bush trails around the peninsula are great for strength training with several kilometres of off-road tracks offering a good variety of steep hills and relatively flat pathways. If the tide is out, I'll sometimes take a slow jaunt around a rocky outcrop onto the north end of Snells Beach, then run a couple of kms along the beach and back.

For anyone wishing to join me, come bring your shoes and stay a while. After the run enjoy the beaches in the summer, or spa during other seasons.
