Is that rain on the roof?

December 4, 2017

What is that sound? Isn't that the way as we're putting on our shoes, the rain begins? Fortunately today it was just light and misty, which was somewhat refreshing as I worked out the stiffness in my legs, back and joints from gardening most days this week. I take 10 to 20 minutes to get into my stride these days but when I'm planning to run about 80 minutes at a reasonably steady pace I feel good just starting slowly knowing I'll have an hour of comfortable aerobic effort. I worked my way down toward Sandspit wharf with just the sound of birds in the trees and the odd neighbour driving by. Some toot to acknowledge me as they whiz by but I don't always recognise the driver as I cautiously watch my footing on the edge of the roadway. Sandspit Road has much less traffic than Mahurangi East Road to Snells Beach and therefore feels safer and is more enjoyable. With bush all around me I don't see the water for the first 5 minutes or so, after which I run around the edge of the spit. Most days, it is just me out there running along with the walkers and the dog-walkers: the long distance runner alone with his thoughts. As an INFJ (refer Myers Briggs) I'm ok alone, although I'm likely to be the most extrovert of introverts you'll ever meet. I look forward to engaging with other fitness fanatics out on the trails, don't you?
